The key functions performed by DPI Colleges are listed under:
- Implement government policies, instructions, directives and orders
- Augmentation in policy formulation, administrative and financial matters
- Administer Inter, Degree, BS-4 Years, Commerce and Post-Graduate Colleges
- Need assessment and provision of resources (funds, human resource, infrastructure) to colleges
- Coordination among the Government, Divisional Directorates, District Education Offices and other agencies
- Preparation of PC-1, and Monitoring and Evaluation of schemes
- Maintaining career record of teaching staff (BPS-17, 18, 19 and 20), and preparation of working paper for their promotions
- Conduct enquiries/probe/disciplinary actions
- Register private colleges under the approved legal framework
- Manage Inter-Divisional Transfers of teaching and non-teaching staff as per delegation of powers and Transfer Policy, 2013 (still in vogue but being exercised by Secretary, HED only)
- Sanction leaves up to maximum of 90 to 179 days from BS-17 to BS-20, except ex-Pakistan and Study Leave as per delegation of powers
